Lesson 11

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

Read Before the lesson:

Song:

Scripture:

And now cometh the day of their calamity, even the days of sorrow, like a woman that is taken in travail; and their sorrow shall be great unless they speedily repent, yea, very speedily.

Lesson:

Read the section in the Family Proclamation for this lesson to the kids. Ask them if they think that Heavenly Father is happy or sad when someone is mean to a family member (sad.) Tell them that Heavenly Father is always watching over us and knows when we are not doing or thinking something nice. But if we try our hardest to be like Jesus, we can know that Heavenly Father is very pleased with us.  Explain to them what a calamity is ( an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress)
If the world does not respect the family then the Lord will cause calamities to come to the earth. Ask your children what kind of calamities might come. Ask them if they respect the family. Ask them if they know of any things that they could do to help spread the importance of families. End with baring your testimony of the importance of families.

Game:

Choose an activity that fits best for your family:
1.       Make thank you cards and send them to whoever they want.
2.       Make kindness plaques for around the house. With simple sayings like be nice, be grateful, be happy, Love one another, etc.
3.       Have everyone write up a letter on why the family is so important. Have it published in the new paper, or send it to a congress person, or president.

Treat:

Follow up throughout the week:

Have everyone make a goal for spreading the importance of family, try and reach those goals throughout the week.
