Lesson 6
We declare
the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm
the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan.
Before the lesson read:
Song:
Every Star is Different p. 142
Lyrics
- 1. Ev'ry star is diff'rent,
And so is ev'ry
child.
Some are bright
and happy,
And some are meek
and mild.
Ev'ry one is
needed
For just what he
can do.
You're the only
person
Who ever can be
you.
A shining star,
shining brightly,
Not so very far,
shining brightly;
Be a shining star.
Shine so brightly;
Shine right where
you are, brightly!
2. I can shine for
others
And let them feel
my love,
Follow the
commandments
That come from God
above.
I can help another
To learn to choose
the right.
Having faith and
courage
Will let my star
shine bright.
Scripture:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Lesson:
Hold up a picture of each child one at a time and ask the family
who it is. Ask them to tell something special about each one of them. Ask them
to share some qualities they have. Go around the room and have everyone respond
to each of the pictures. Make sure that it is a positive atmosphere and that
everyone is treated with respect and kindness. Once you are done with all of
the family show a picture of Jesus. Ask the same questions. Once everyone has
had a chance to answer tell them that Heavenly Father and Jesus love us all
very much and they want us to be happy. He has a plan for each of us and we may
not know what it is yet but they will guide us to it if we follow them. Then
share with them ways that they are already following the Savior. (going to
church, saying prayers, etc) Then ask them if there are other ways that they
think they can follow the Savior plan for their lives. Share with them how you
as their parents have followed the plan the Savior set forth for them by
meeting the spouse and getting married and having children. They are following
the plan of salvation, or the plan of happiness. Share with them the love you
have for each of your family members and how life would be completely different
without them.
Game:
Choose one that will work best for your family:
1. Play
“I spy” but instead of picking objects around the room choose family members
and share special traits that the child/person has that you admire.
2. Have
each person write a “thank you for being you” letter to anyone that they want.
3. Make
a poster of the plan of happiness. With cut outs and pictures from the
children.
Treat:
Make an ice cream dessert and have each of the kids
pick their favorite candy to put into the ice cream. Explain while making them
that each person in the family has a uniqueness that is all their own and that
that makes them very special and when they all work together as a family, the
family has power to move mountains.
Follow up throughout the week:
Pay attention to each family member and give
compliments when you see them doing something that makes you smile, or that you
are proud of. Encourage others to do the same.
