The first commandment that God gave
to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and
wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and
replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded
that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and
woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.
Read before the lesson:
Song:
My life is a gift; my life has a plan.
My
life has a purpose; in heav'n it began.
My
choice was to come to this lovely home on earth
And
seek for God's light to direct me from birth.
I
will follow God's plan for me,
Holding
fast to his word and his love.
I
will work, and I will pray;
I
will always walk in his way.
Then
I will be happy on earth
And
in my home above.
Scripture
10 And in that day Adam blessed God and was filled, and
began to prophesy concerning all the families of the earth, saying: Blessed be
the name of God, for because of my transgression my eyes are opened, and in
this life I shall have joy, and again in the flesh I shall see God.
11 And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was
glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed,
and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and
the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.
12 And Adam and Eve blessed the name of God, and they
made all things known unto their sons and their daughters.
Lesson:
Cut open a piece of fruit that has a seed in it and show the kids. Pass it around so they can see it. Explain to them that Heavenly Father created this world to be able to sustain itself. So everything has a way of growing again. Just like this fruit, it has a seed and if you plant that seed another one will grow. Ask them if they know of any other examples. If they don’t help them out by giving some examples. Lead the discussion to moms and dads having babies. Tell them that Heavenly Father created our bodies to create life as well. He has commanded us to multiply and replenish the earth. Show them a picture of each of your children when they were babies. Tell them how much each of them have blessed your life. Explain that when Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden their first commandment was to multiply and replenish the earth. Ask them why they think that was so important. Help them out if they cannot answer. Tell them that Heavenly Father still commands that of us today but sometimes peopled don’t want to listen. Elder Ezra Taft Benson
“The
first commandment given to man was to multiply and replenish the earth with
children. That commandment has never been altered, modified, or cancelled. The
Lord did not say to multiply and replenish the earth if it is convenient, or if
you are wealthy, or after you have gotten your schooling, or when there is
peace on earth, or until you have four children. The Bible says, ‘Lo, children
are an heritage of the Lord: … Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of
them. …’ (Ps. 127:3, 5.)
We believe God is glorified by having numerous children and a program of
perfection for them. So also will God glorify that husband and wife who have a
large posterity and who have tried to raise them up in righteousness” (in
Conference Report, Apr. 1969, 12).
Ask
each child if they want to have a family some day when they grow up. Then ask
them what they must do first before they are able to start a family. (Get
married in the Temple) Tell them that Heavenly Father wants us to have a family
but we have to do it at the right time. Having babies is so special that Heavenly
Father wants to make sure that the baby has a good safe place to be and that is
with a mom and a dad. President Gordon
B. Hinckley said “You should recognize, you must recognize, that both
experience and divine wisdom dictate virtue and moral cleanliness as the way
that leads to strength of character, peace in the heart, and happiness in life.
For
your own sakes, for your happiness now and in all the years to come, and for
the happiness of the generations who come after you, avoid sexual transgression
as you would a plague.
Prove
your strength, show your independence, by saying no when enticement from peers
comes your way. Your own strength will add strength to those who are weak. Your
own example will give determination to others.”
End
with baring your testimony of families, and the importance of having children
after you are married.
Game:
Choose
an option that will fit your family best.
2.
Plant a seed and watch it grow over the next few
days/weeks
3.
If possible go find a baby animal
farm and talk about how everything has multiplied in its same image. Before you
go read Moses 2: 21-22 “ And I, God, created great whales,
and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth
abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind; and I, God,
saw that all things which I had created were good. And I, God, blessed them, saying:
Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the sea; and let fowl
multiply in the earth;”
Treat:
Fruit
platter. Have the kids try and spot all
the seeds.
